Anchorage, Alaska – September 12, 2018 – Alsco Inc. donated to Alaska Work Source (AWS), a local organization providing hope and job training for Alaskans in need of a second chance.
“We think Alaska Work Source is doing some really great work in the community to help the homeless get the skills they need to find jobs and get back on their feet,” says Don Wirth, General Manager of the Alsco Alaska Branch.
AWS provides vocational training, job skills, character development, life skills on-the-job training, and case management to those individuals with a history of homelessness, incarceration and alcohol/drug addiction. Modeled after some of the nation’s leading transitional work programs, AWS uses job training, paid transitional work and personalized mentorship to catapult individuals into the workforce and out of cycles of homelessness, crime, and addiction.
The Alsco Alaska branch’s donation to AWS will go to support all of its programs, but the branch will also be supporting AWS’ Culinary Arts training program with in-kind donations of chef whites, cook shirts, and any other linen supplies needed.
“As a branch we wanted to support what they do in our local community by providing them with not only monetary support but by providing trainees with culinary uniforms that will help them feel more professional and allow them to dress to impress potential employers,” says Wirth.
Alsco Anchorage hopes to have more opportunities to support those within the community looking to make good changes and move forward.
