Alsco Memphis Donates to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Apr. 6, 2020 — Alsco Memphis, a branch of Alsco Inc., the premier linen and uniform rental services company, recently donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This donation will provide necessary funds to help the fight against childhood cancer.

In 1998, one of the country’s top high school quarterbacks, Harris Jones, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. For eight months, Jones received life-saving treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. With the help of his St. Jude team, Jones realized his dream of playing college football.

“Harris Jones is now a sales consultant at our Alsco Memphis branch and was a patient at St. Jude when he was 17. St. Jude saved his life,” said Ron Richards, Alsco Memphis general manager. “St. Jude provides free cancer treatment to children from all over the world. The parents never pay a penny for travel, treatment or housing.”

“Funds contributed by donors like the Steiner Foundation are critical given that no family ever receives a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food. Because all a family should worry about is helping their child live,” said Christopher Owens, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital market director/field development. “St. Jude is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Its purpose is clear: finding cures, saving children.”

Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to over 80% since the hospital opened over 50 years ago. “St. Jude will not stop until no child dies from cancer. St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children,” stated Owens.

“We are grateful for St. Jude’s mission. It’s donations like this that help to keep St. Jude going strong by providing jobs in Memphis and also bringing recognition to our community,” stated Richards.
