Alsco Las Vegas Branch Joins Three Square in Efforts to Reduce Food Insecurity

LAS VEGAS —More than 271,000 people are estimated to be food-insecure in the four-county area of Southern Nevada that includes Clark, Nye, Lincoln and Esmeralda counties. Alsco is working to help reduce that number by donating financial support to Three Square, a member of Feeding America. As an affiliate of Feeding America, Three Square sources food, raises funds and relies on volunteers to help supply its program partners — such as food shelters, meal programs and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) sites — with wholesome food. Three Square distributes this food directly to hundreds of neighborhood locations in all four counties to ensure that its most vulnerable citizens receive the food and nutrition they need. Recipients include low-income individuals, children and the elderly. Forty percent of the people served by Three Square’s agency partners are children. “No one should have to go hungry, especially children,” said Michael Beau Murchison, general manager of the Alsco Las Vegas Branch. “To that end, Three Square is providing a vital service to the community.” Three Square runs numerous programs, including Childhood Nutrition, SNAP, Senior Hunger Programs, Food Rescue and Distribution, Surplus Banquet Food Program and The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) to help ensure everyone in the four-county area gets the emergency food they need. “Three Square is effective at fulfilling its mission and filled with dedicated volunteers, and we’re proud to support their work,” said Murchison.
