Alsco Durham Donates to Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill

DURHAM, N.C. — The Alsco Durham branch of Alsco Inc. recently donated $1,000 to Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill, which comprises a $500 donation to the Durham location and $500 donation to the Chapel Hill location. The Alsco Durham branch applied for and received a nonprofit gift/grant through the Steiner Foundation, which Alsco created in 1969 to allow Alsco branches to become involved in and support various nonprofit charities and projects in their local communities.

Ronald McDonald House Charities operate over 350 locations around the world. These locations provide a home, meals, education and peace of mind to families with sick children receiving treatment at local hospitals, at no cost to the family. Alsco Durham is fortunate enough to have two Ronald McDonald House Charities in their area. Together, these two North Carolina locations house over 100 families with sick children.

“Alsco Durham and the Ronald McDonald Houses have been great partners for over 20 years,” said Chris Strickland, general manager of Alsco Durham. “We are honored to give back to the community through Ronald McDonald House Charities.”

“We greatly appreciate the partnership with Alsco that has lasted more than two decades,” said Katie Lowek, director of Ronald McDonald House Durham. “Alsco is so reliable and the donation means so much to us to be able to help out families.”

About the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill

A statewide organization, the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill (RMH) has been serving North Carolina families for over 30 years. RMH enables access to quality health care by providing a “home away from home” for families of seriously ill or injured children who are receiving treatment at UNC Children’s Hospital. Since opening its doors in 1988, RMH has served over 40,000 families from across North Carolina and beyond. We are the only Ronald McDonald House in the state to have hosted families from all 100 counties. The 1,600+ families we help each year have children receiving treatment at the top-ranked UNC Children’s Hospital, a state-run pediatric facility that treats patients regardless of financial resources. Although we request a donation of $25 per night for most rooms, no family is ever turned away because they are unable to pay. Over 60% of the families we serve are low income and unable to make any donation. Families staying at RMH not only enjoy amenities like those found in their own home, but also the support of other families experiencing similar struggles. In the comfort and quiet provided here, they are able to relax and unwind after a long, stressful day at the hospital. RMH offers physical comfort and emotional support through programs dedicated to the well-being of the whole family. For more information or to donate, please visit https://rmh-chapelhill.org
