Alsco Spokane Donation Provides 500 Books to Evergreen Elementary

SPOKANE, Wash. – June 27, 2018 – The Alsco Spokane branch of Alsco Inc., the premier linen and uniform rental services company, recently donated funds through the KXLY 4 News, Disney/ABC, Magic of Storytelling literacy program to purchase 500 books for Evergreen Elementary School in the Mead School District. For over 100 years, Mead School District is a public school district serving the North Spokane community.

Staff at the Alsco Spokane branch applied for and received a non-profit gift/grant through the Steiner Foundation, which was created by Alsco in 1969 to allow Alsco branches to become involved in and help support various non-profit charities and projects in their local communities.

Through a long-standing relationship between Disney and First Book, a network of educators, the Magic of Storytelling literacy program encourages children to read by distributing age-appropriate books to a Title I school or other pre-qualified literacy program being sponsored by individuals or local companies. Thus far, more than 61 million books have been provided to children in need. KXLY has a long history of being a media pioneer in the Inland Empire and teamed up with Disney/ABC to help local companies “adopt” a school to promote literacy. “Alsco takes great pride in servicing the Mead School District. We are thankful for the opportunity to provide facility and rental services to the Mead School District,” says General Manager Joey Kink, for the Alsco Spokane branch. “We wanted a way to locally promote the Magic of Storytelling program that helps children develop reading skills and have easy access to 500 new books that match their age level. All of us at Alsco Spokane are proud to support the partnership of KXLY 4 News and Disney/ABC through the Magic of Storytelling program as well as serve our local community.”
